COGMED: Working Memory Training Program    red

Cognitive and Memory Enhancement Program (CogmedTM

Cogmed™ combines cognitive neuroscience with innovative computer game design and close professional support to deliver substantial and lasting benefits. Our solutions include easy-to-use software and personal support.

Cogmed™ was developed for children and adults who struggle with working memory ability, overall learning speed, logic, reasoning ability and expressive word ability. It is intended for those with working memory problems or disorders such as ADHD, of after a concussion or brain injury.

Cogmed™ is research based and highly successful with children and college students who find themselves up against the same blockages to learning they may have had in high school, or for the adult who wants to give his brain a boost. It is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics as an Evidence-based treatment for ADHD.

Cogmed™ is a highly effective working memory program that has positive results for individuals with ADHD, those who have had brain injury/stroke or general memory loss. Working memory is defined as the ability to retain information online for a short period of time long enough to successfully use that information to solve a problem. The Cogmed training method consists of 25 computerized training sessions, each 30-45 minutes long. Each session consists of a selection of various tasks that target the different aspects of working memory. The training is done on a computer at home, in school, or at work. The training program is five weeks long with five sessions every week. It is a rigorous program designed to improve working memory through intensive and systematic training.

The complete program includes:
Initial Interview
–  A psych testing neuropsychologist schedules a talk with the person interested in going through the program (or the parent if it is regarding a child). The likelihood of him/her benefiting from the training is evaluated and discussed.
Start-up session
 – Your Cogmed coach plans and structures the training together with the user/family.
Five weeks of training with weekly coach calls
 – The user is training at home (through the internet) and talks with the Cogmed coach on a weekly basis to get advice on how to get the most out of the training, hear feedback, and increase motivation.
Access to the Cogmed Training Web
 – Both the user and the Cogmed coach review and monitor the results of each day’s training, using the online system.
Wrap-up session
 – About one month after the training is completed, the Cogmed coach summarizes the training together with the user and provides feedback data from rating scales and the Cogmed training web.
Six months follow-up interview
 – The Cogmed coach documents training effects again, with more time elapsed and the effects fully emerged.
Cogmed Extension Training
 – When the intensive five week training is completed and the training has been wrapped up, the user gets access to 100 sessions of training with the software, to use over a 12 month period. Cogmed extension training is optional and no extra fee is involved for the first 12 months.

The cost for all of this to be completed with a neuropsychologist is competitively priced at $1500.
